Hola!
The path to Pamplona was mostly through picturesque woodlands and bush tracks, crossing the arga river many times. Walking into the fortified city by foot was quite something (something being quite a tired pilgrim).
The weather is starting to heat up, thank god for the ozone it means we are able to block up and just enjoy the sun! My body (or meatsuit) however is giving me some pretty clear feedback on how it's feeling about our new situation 😳 no blisters to date, so very grateful for that. I ask a lot of it each day; and everyday it delivers.
Pamplona has brought a few new learnings.
1) an Epsom salt foot soak and massage will ensure you see faces one assumes should be kept only for a lover (Lucy and I had a foot massage and it felt unbelievable)
2) short shorts in Pamplona seem to cause a commotion and lots of stares. It took me several hours to realise Lucy and I were the culprit in said shorts.
3) pop up opera in the main square brings a new found appreciation for opera, it brought many together young and old and transported the spirit!
We Walked the city, ate loads of pintos turned into a tourist from a pilgrim... Couldn't shop (as we can't carry anything) so turned into a pilgrim again.
Today we left Pamplona early (7am) and walked for about 9 hours through wheat fields filled with poppies, small villages and one large mountain (alto del perdon) 790m in between a wind farm on the ridge.
30 Ks later we've pulled up in a small village of 200 for the night, gratefully grabbing the last 2 beds available in a shared dorm of 12. It got hot today, late 20s hot, which has lead to an early night after hand washing our day clothes.
Part of the adventure is not knowing where we will sleep, if there will even be any beds available or if we will have to walk on.......
Pleased to report I took off my watch before we started, and haven't put it back on since. We rise when we rise, walk to the rhythm of our bodies and the heat of the day. Pretty simple.
